Razorin' Vroom Vroom

I find razors a problem.  I like the fancy expensive ones, but the refill pack is $15!  I don't buy shirts for $15! I use a mix of possible and refillable depending on promotions and pricing.

For today, I'm sharing my solution to a few problems.  I received a package of Bic Soleil Glow razors from Bzzz agent to test out.   I very happy to give them I try, maybe I could settle on one brand from now on.

When  I opened the package there were three razors inside, not the two that I thought.  I am a frequent gym user.  I have three gyms that I frequent.  No, I'm not crazy, two are at my place of work and free and the third is the local rec center gym that I pay my year fees to use.  I am trying very hard to get in the habit of using the gym in the morning.  I need to shower most days after a good workout, and this three pack of razors is great for that.  I put one in the shower, one in my my gym bag and the third went into my travel bag.

They have a nice wide handle, not so chunky that they don't fit in the shower caddy, but easy to grip.  I have a pretty small shower and I've bumped my elbow before causing the razor to fly out of my hand.  Super annoying.

I will buy these razors again, and the nice thing is next time I can change the shower razor and the gym razor and I'll have one left over, meaning I can go that much longer with the shower razor.  The razors last a long time, I shave maybe two times a week and i'm going on a month without feeling any tell tale tugging showing me the blade is going.

UnGoogleable.

Yes.  That's a word.
UnGoogleable.

Since the start of my time on the internet... Circa 1995 I had a pretty distinct name.  First name fairly tradition, spelt in a traditional way.  With trendy 70's and 80's it became non-traditional.  Meghan.  That's me.  My Maiden name was less traditional, and combined with Meghan it was pretty one of a kind.

I was a very high-profile athlete at a school that loved to do press releases.  We played 2/3 games a week for a full season.  That's maybe 12 games?  It was a long time ago.  I played for 4 years.  That's a hell of a lot of press.

So...  When you Googled my former name, it was all me.  Maybe the first 3 or 4 pages of Google.  I learned that employers will Google you for a job interview years before others did.  You could not miss me.  And the photos...  Yikes.

I got married and that part of my life changed.  I now have the same last name as a B- list celebrity.  I moved across the country, started a new job and all of a sudden, I was just like the rest of the world.  When someone Googles you, there are pages to sort through.

And unlike the rest of the world, the first 3 or 4 pages are all devoted to someone else.

It's weird.  And I love it.  Except for when I want to feel cool.  I used to say "Google me.  It's all me"

Now I say "just try to Google me.  Just try"

Beauty 101: The Natural, No Makeup Tutorial

•      I WAS NOT COMPENSATED FOR THIS POST; HOWEVER, I AM CREATING THIS POST AS PART OF A CONTEST

I love makeup.  I work in a world where make up isn't need and in some cases is a hinderance.  Pretend I'm a professional welder.  No makeup needed.  Due to this fact, I take advantage of wearing makeup every chance I get.  My husband had gotten used to the makeup-to-buy-groceries side of me.

Getting to this point was quite the progress.  I blame it on my mother.  My mom, bless her heart is just terrible at being in style.  She had eye shadow and eyebrow pencil.  That was it.  I feel she was gifted them by a well-meaning college friend once and never added anything to the stash, instead just buying the same products for decades.  She never had anything to steal/borrow or even long for.  Pale pink eyeshadow just wasn't lustworthy.

Fast forward to college where a new best friend help point out that makeup is your friend.  She was a great help, and I grew to be fairly competent at cream eyeshadow, glitter everything and liquid liner.  It was 1998, what were you wearing?  By senior year I needed to update my style realizing I might need to be seen as a grown up and not looking like Baby Spice did my makeup.  Cosmo makeup guide pages were my friend.  I would study them, see what products I needed to buy, wait for the Rite-Aid 50% off sales and off I went!   This strategy work for years.  Every season I'd check to see what I needed to look up-to date, adjust my look and practice in the mirror trying to emulate photos that I now realise were likely photoshopped to perfection.

Enter the video tutorial.  Life changing.  A real life person applying makeup.  I could follow along, rewatch, emulate.  My struggles of trying to copy a photo now had a real life paint by numbers coach!  Awesome. Great way to spend a rainy day as well.  Upped my game, helping be a more polished professional.

One thing I struggle with is a natural look.  I feel it stems from that Baby Spice phase, more is better.  As most of my makeup needs are at formal events for my job (FYI I'm not really a welder) the heavier night look is appropriate.  I need to work on my day to day meeting and grocery shopping makeup.  Influenster put together this great tutorial on their YouTube channel about Rimmel FitMe line.  I've watched it a few times and put a few of the items on my shopping list.  Rimmel products aren't the most pricey so even though I'm still pretty thrifty I might be able to buy them all at full price.  I don't have a blush, never thought I needed it, but after watching this I'm going to pick one up.

I'm going to count this towards my PhD of being a better grown up.  Enjoy!

Advil Film Coated.

SO, as disclosed, I receive free stuff and then I need to write about it.  This past month I was a tester for Advil Film Coated. for Crowtap.  I received a sample for myself and then some to share with others.  All opinions are my own.  I was not compensated in any way other then product for my review.

My Little Helper!

Everyone loves a hangover right?  Oh wait...

So after the first amazing afternoon of beer drinking this summer, I woke up around 1:30 feeling like a 21 year old after the last final.  Owie my head.  Blurry and stumbling, I went on a search for something to fix the pounding head.  Remembering that I have received my Advil Film Coated samples, and that I had not put them away I located them on the kitchen table.  I took two, had some water and waited.  Ahh.  Sweet relief came about 15 minutes later, and within 45 minutes I was back asleep.

Ahhh.

Next time, less beers, more water.  One of these day I'll learn!

Truth in Advertising

Here's the truth.

I am starting this blog for two reasons.  The number one reason is somehow I have gotten on about a billion mailing lists for a bunch of companies who keep sending my free stuff.  (Not a complaint!)  I've tested vitamins, cold medicine, breakfast shakes, two kinds of sunblock, countless yummy treats, gross treats, and a smattering of mascara and lipstick.  (Got a rash from one, I'll let you decide what product would be worse)

I get the the part of testing/review/whatever is to share all about your testing/reviewing/whatevering.  I have a blog link from my wedding 4 years ago that I share. Awesome.  Because that's that Coppertone was thinking when they send $50 worth of sunblock.  Emmy's wedding blog.  How we met, Directions to the Ceremony, Review of Sunscreen.

So here goes a try.  The other reason is I Love Blogs.  I read all kinds.  GOMI is a daily hit, I read that and then read all the blogs they talk about.  Why not share my way exciting life?  So as of right now, this is a work in progress.

So...  Here it goes.  A place to share about all the cool stuff (and sometimes not so cool stuff) I've gotten.  A place to sort my thoughts out on life.  And maybe a place to entertain people and make millions.  Or not so much.

Hello World! (could it be anything else)

I'm on  mission to become a better person.  This mission is one that will and is going to get sidetracked.  It's a mission that has been in the works for a few years, sometimes it's going awesome and other times not so much.  Maybe I'll share.  Maybe I won't.

I've found that if I put things to writing, they become true.  It's magic.  Not like "I wish I had a pony" and I go outside and find a pony on the lawn.  (What's that movie?  Elf but not in winter... you know the one?)  I find I hold myself accountable if I write things down.  I love lists.   So does my husband.  Sometimes we even get stuff on the list done.  Sometimes I write the list after I've done stuff so I can cross it off.

Here's my list for the next 48 hours using both techniques:

1.  Prep meals for the next few days.  Starting last weekend we long have days off together with any regularity.  I went shopping and I'm spending the afternoon as a prep cook.  3/4 meals started.  Nothing that is super time sensitive so if Pizza is calling or we get a little tipsy and have popcorn instead we aren't throwing things away.

2.  Plant the pile (yep) of plants on the deck somewhere.  Perhaps in the neighbor's hard because it's ugly.

3.  Stay up to date with my Nike+ workouts.  So far I'm behind and it's day two.  Gotta get on that.

4.  Go get my bathing suit from the gym where I left it yesterday.  Perhaps get #3 done at the same time.

5.  Practice my clipless pedals.  (Ug.)
